How to choose a pet camera robot
- Robot or fixed camera? A fixed pet camera on a shelf is cheaper and always charged. A robot earns its keep if you want to follow your pet between rooms, or if you have several rooms to check.
- Make sure it docks itself. A robot that can't find its charger will be flat when you open the app. The PetPal, Air 2, SE and EBO X return to a dock; the ROLA Mini charges by magnetic cable instead.
- Check your floors. These are small robots. Tracks and rubber wheels handle carpet and hard floors, but none climbs stairs. Rugs with tassels and high thresholds can stop them.
- Count the subscription. Most work without one using an SD card, but cloud storage and AI clip editing cost extra. Digital Camera World put Enabot's cloud plans at about US$6 to US$32 a month.
- Think about the laser. Laser play excites many cats and some dogs, but some pets get frustrated chasing a light they can't catch. End sessions with a toy or treat they can actually get.
- It's a camera in your home. Set a strong password, turn on two-factor login if offered, and switch off remote access when you're home. Our camera privacy guide covers the settings.

How we researched this
We shortlisted roaming camera robots sold in Australia that are marketed for pets, then compared camera resolution, whether they dock themselves, pet play features, storage and subscriptions, and local warranty. Prices come from Enabot Australia (run by Lengos Trading, Mulgrave, Victoria), JB Hi-Fi and Amazon AU on 29 October 2026. Specs come from Enabot's global spec pages and independent reviews linked in each pick, because Enabot Australia's product pages repeat the same feature badges across models. We haven't tested these robots ourselves.
Common questions
What is the best pet camera robot in Australia?
For most homes, the Enabot ROLA PetPal ($369 at Enabot Australia and JB Hi-Fi, checked 29 October 2026). It has a 2.5K camera, docks itself, recognises cats and dogs, and takes optional treat and toy modules.
Can a pet camera robot dispense treats?
The ROLA PetPal can, with its A$99 treat-dispenser module. The AU Review found portions inconsistent, from two treats to 15, so start small.
Do pet camera robots need a subscription?
Not to work. Enabot's robots record to an SD card; cloud storage and AI highlight clips cost extra.
Can a pet robot climb stairs?
No. Pet camera robots are small wheeled or tracked robots that stay on one floor. Put the dock on the level where your pet spends the day.
Are robot cameras safe for privacy?
They're as safe as the account protecting them. Use a unique password, keep firmware updated and turn off remote access you don't need.
