Enabot EBO X review: a clever home robot that's hard to justify at full price
The EBO X is Enabot's flagship family robot: a rolling 4K camera with a Harman speaker, voice chat and alerts that you can drive around the house from your phone. We haven't used it ourselves; this review draws on Enabot Australia's specs and prices, Amazon AU, and independent hands-on reviews. Checked 30 October 2026.

Quick answer
Buy it on sale if you want one robot to check on pets and people; otherwise, cheaper cameras do the job. The EBO X was $1,399 on sale at Enabot Australia on 30 October 2026 (RRP $1,699, two-year warranty) and $1,699 on Amazon AU. Reviewers praised its stabilised 4K camera, night vision and sound, and its retractable camera for privacy. They also found mapping slow, rugs and thick carpet a struggle, and setup finicky. Enabot now lists GPT-4o mini voice chat, which those 2023 reviews predate. For pets alone, the ROLA PetPal costs a quarter as much.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it
- Buy it if you want to look in on pets and family from anywhere in the house, not just where a fixed camera points.
- Buy it if you'll use the speaker, voice chat and Alexa features too; that's what the price pays for.
- Skip it if your home is mostly thick rugs or has steps between rooms; it can't climb stairs and reviewers found rugs a problem.
- Skip it if you mainly want security; Digital Trends suggested a few fixed cameras would suit most homes better.
- Skip it if you want to be seen on a screen; Enabot lists no display for showing the caller.

What reviewers found
Digital Camera World (July 2023) called the camera fantastic, with good night vision and superb sound, but found home mapping slow and temperamental, the robot stuck on rugs, the camera sometimes needing manual angling, and one failure of its drop sensor at a table edge. It returned to its dock below 20% battery, though it once got stuck under a coffee table. Digital Trends (September 2023) liked the design, smart-home features, 4K footage and the privacy shutter, but called setup complicated and the low camera angle awkward for filming people; it slowed on thick carpet and its speakers sounded muffled there.
Both reviews tested the 2023 launch software, and both judged it hard to justify at its US$999 launch price. Enabot has since added GPT-4o mini voice chat. We found no independent review of the current software, so treat the navigation findings as a guide rather than the final word.
Privacy
The EBO X can pull its camera into its body so it can't see, and you can point it at the floor. It has a camera and four microphones and connects to Enabot's app and, if you enable it, Alexa and an AI chat service. Turn on two-factor sign-in, limit who has app access, and switch off unfamiliar-person alerts if you don't need them. Our guide to robot cameras and privacy covers the questions to ask.
Strengths and weaknesses
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|
| Stabilised high-resolution camera with good night vision | Struggles with rugs and thick carpet; no stairs |
| Strong speaker and voice features | Setup and mapping were finicky in reviews |
| Retractable camera for privacy | Expensive at full price |
| Docks itself; 2-year local warranty | Independent reviews predate the current AI features |

Where to buy
Enabot's AU store had the lower price on our check date. Amazon AU is worth checking if it matches the sale.
Verdict
The EBO X is the most capable home robot you can drive around and talk through in Australia, with a good camera and speaker and a two-year local warranty. Reviewers' complaints about mapping, rugs and setup are real, and nobody has independently reviewed the current software yet. At $1,399 it's a reasonable buy for a household that will use it for pets, family check-ins and music; at $1,699, most people are better served by a cheaper Enabot or a couple of fixed cameras.
