Best robot mower for large blocks in Australia

Four robot mowers for lawns from about 1,500 m² to 8,000 m², from $3,999 to $7,999. On a big block the questions change: how much grass it gets through per charge, whether it stays connected at the far end of the property, how it handles several separate lawns, and how hard it is to steal. Prices checked 13–14 October 2026.

Quick answer

For most quarter-acre-plus blocks, especially with trees, slopes or several lawns, the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 5000 ($5,599) is the most complete package: built-in 4G, an included RTK base station, LiDAR for shaded areas and 80% slope climbing. For big, mostly flat and open lawns, the Segway Navimow X350 ($5,199) is the quick mower reviewers rate highly. The Husqvarna 440 iQ ($7,999) covers the most lawn, up to 8,000 m², with dealer support. On a tighter budget, the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 AWD ($3,999) is on pre-order.

How to choose a robot mower for a big block

  • Rated area assumes all-day mowing. Husqvarna notes its capacity figures assume the mower can run around the clock. If you limit mowing to daylight (wise for wildlife and noise), size up. CHOICE suggests a mower rated for a lawn slightly larger than yours.
  • Check area per charge, not just total area. The LUBA 3 AWD 5000 is rated for 5,000 m² but up to about 1,700 m² per charge (Mammotion AU), so a big lawn takes several charge cycles.
  • Plan the RTK base station. Husqvarna says to mount its reference station at least 2 m high with a clear view of the sky, and dense tree crowns can block the mower's signal. Mammotion suggests a roof mount for split or U-shaped lawns. No brand publishes a range figure.
  • Connectivity at the far fence. Home Wi-Fi rarely reaches the back paddock. Built-in 4G (included on the LUBA 3 AWD and the Navimow X3 series) keeps the app and theft tracking working. Husqvarna says you need at least one bar of mobile signal in every lawn area.
  • Multiple lawns. Look for multi-zone mapping and per-zone settings, plus transport paths between areas. Husqvarna supports a separate secondary work area you carry the mower to.
  • Theft on rural roads. Large-block mowers cost $4,000 to $8,000. GPS tracking, lift alarms and a PIN matter, and CHOICE advises keeping robots in a securely fenced yard.

How we researched this

We shortlisted robot mowers sold in Australia on 13–14 October 2026 rated for 2,000 m² or more, then compared what matters on large blocks: rated area and area per charge, cutting width and runtime, navigation and base-station needs, mobile (4G) connectivity, multi-zone support and anti-theft features. Prices are from Mammotion AU, Amazon AU, Navimow AU, Husqvarna AU, MOVA AU and Essendon Mowers on those dates. We used manufacturers' installation guidance and read independent reviews where they exist. We haven't tested these mowers ourselves.

Common questions

What is the best robot mower for a large block in Australia?

For most large blocks, the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 5000 ($5,599 at Mammotion AU and Amazon AU on 14 October 2026). For flat, open lawns, the Segway Navimow X350 ($5,199).

Can a robot mower handle an acre?

Yes. An acre is about 4,050 m², within the rating of 5,000 m² models such as the LUBA 3 AWD 5000 and Navimow X350, and well within the Husqvarna 440 iQ's 8,000 m². Expect several charge cycles per full cut.

Do large-block robot mowers need Wi-Fi?

Not if they have 4G. The LUBA 3 AWD and Navimow X3 series include mobile connectivity; check how long the included data lasts, as it isn't confirmed for Australia on every model.

Where should I put the RTK base station?

High and clear of trees and roofs: Husqvarna says at least 2 m up with open sky in all directions, and Mammotion suggests a roof mount for split lawns.

Is a robot mower better than a ride-on for acreage?

It depends on the block. A robot mows little and often without you, but costs $4,000 to $8,000 and needs secure storage. We found no independent cost comparison for Australian acreage, so compare it with your ride-on's fuel and servicing or a contractor's yearly bill.
