What matters on tiles and timber
- Edges and corners first. CHOICE's lab averages 88% on hard floors but only 65% on corners and edges. Extending side brushes and mops (Ecovacs TruEdge, Roborock FlexiArm) are the biggest upgrade for tiled and timber homes.
- Soft or rubber brushes. The Australian Timber Flooring Association warns that grit acts like sandpaper and hard-headed vacuums cause fine scratches. Rubber or floating brushes and a regular empty bin help.
- Damp, not wet, on timber. The ATFA says to damp-mop only and never wet-mop timber. Use the lowest water setting that works, and check your floor's finish: if water soaks in and darkens the boards, don't let a robot mop it.
- Roller mops for grout. Roller mops press down along their whole width and rinse themselves as they go, which suits tile and grout. Spinning pads are fine for smooth timber and laminate.
- Height for kickboards and couches. Australian kitchens and lounges often have low clearance. The T50 Omni and Qrevo Edge 2 are about 80 mm tall; the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow is 119 mm.

How we researched this
We shortlisted robot vacuums on sale at Australian brand stores and retailers on 11 October 2026 and compared what matters on hard floors: edge and corner reach (extending brushes and mops), main brush type, mop design and water control, obstacle avoidance and height. We left out the models already in our best robot vacuum and mop guide so this list adds new options, and used CHOICE's buying advice and the Australian Timber Flooring Association's floor-care guidance for the timber-specific advice. We read independent reviews where they exist. We haven't tested these robots ourselves.
Common questions
What is the best robot vacuum for tiles in Australia?
On 14 October 2026 we'd pick the Ecovacs Deebot T50 Omni ($499 on Amazon AU; $1,299 at Ecovacs AU) for its extending brush and mop, or the Deebot T80 Omni ($699) for roller mopping on grout.
Are robot vacuums safe for timber floors?
Generally yes, if the brush is soft or rubber and you mop with very little water. Check your timber's finish first and use no-mop zones on boards that absorb water.
Do robot vacuums clean grout lines?
Vacuuming lifts loose dirt from grout; roller mops that press along their full width do better on grime in grout than spinning pads. None replaces an occasional scrub.
Do I need a mop on a robot for hard floors?
No. A vacuum-only robot keeps tiles and timber free of dust and grit. A mop helps with kitchen spills and footprints, but adds running costs.
