Xiaomi's humanoid robot: a home trial, a factory shift, and what it means for Australia
Xiaomi, the brand behind a lot of the robot vacuums and phones in Australian homes, says its robots have just passed two milestones: a full eight-hour shift in its car factory, and a 30-minute run of household chores in a real apartment. Here's what Xiaomi actually announced on 3 November 2026, what's still unclear, and whether a Xiaomi home robot could reach Australia. Checked 4 November 2026.

Quick answer
You can't buy a Xiaomi humanoid, here or anywhere. There's no price and no release date. On 3 November 2026 Xiaomi said its humanoid robot had completed its first eight-hour work challenge at a car-factory station, and that an AI system built on its Xiaomi-Robotics-1 model had started a trial in Xiaomi's staff apartments, finishing one continuous task of more than 30 minutes across three rooms and more than 50 sub-tasks. These are Xiaomi's own claims, and a Chinese tech site reports the apartment robot was a wheeled, two-armed machine rather than the two-legged humanoid. Xiaomi says it plans to bring robots into homes “in the future”, but hasn't given a date. For Australians, the Xiaomi robot you can buy is still a robot vacuum.

What Xiaomi announced on 3 November
Xiaomi presented two results at the 2026 World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China, and founder Lei Jun posted them on Weibo the same day:
- A full shift in the factory. For the first time, Xiaomi's humanoid took on an eight-hour work challenge at a car-factory station that sorts and sequences centre-console side covers. Xiaomi says it fixed problems on its own and kept pace with the production line, and called this a “preliminary” check that it can do line work.
- A trial in real apartments. An AI “agent” system built on Xiaomi's Xiaomi-Robotics-1 model began trial operation in Xiaomi's youth apartments (housing for its staff). Xiaomi says it finished a single continuous job lasting more than 30 minutes, across three rooms, covering more than 50 tasks. Chinese tech site CNMO lists them as preparing tools, tidying a desk, taking out rubbish, putting things back, checking the room and re-checking the whole home.
Xiaomi says Xiaomi-Robotics-1 was trained on 100,000 hours of real robot movements and ranked first overall on two simulated benchmarks, RoboCasa365 and RoboDojo, in July 2026. Benchmarks are simulations, not homes.
Which robot did the housework?
This is the part to read carefully. Xiaomi's own wording credits its AI model for the apartment trial and uses “humanoid” only for the factory robot. Chinese shopping and tech site SMZDM reports that the apartment robot was a wheeled base with two arms and two-finger grippers, not a walking humanoid, and that the demo video was sped up four times. It also notes Xiaomi gave no figures for speed, reliability, safety or privacy. Another Chinese outlet, 21Jingji, describes it as a humanoid robot. We've gone with the cautious reading: Xiaomi's robot AI ran the home trial, on a robot Xiaomi hasn't clearly described.
That doesn't make it unimportant. A 30-minute job of more than 50 steps without a reset is the kind of long, messy task home robots struggle with. But it was a trial in Xiaomi's own housing, judged by Xiaomi.
Xiaomi's humanoid so far
| When | What | Details (Xiaomi's figures) |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 2022 | CyberOne unveiled | 177 cm, 52 kg, 21 degrees of freedom; not for sale; estimated to cost 600,000–700,000 yuan to make (Engadget) |
| Mar 2026 | Factory trials begin | First run: 3 hours autonomous, 90.2% success fitting self-tapping nuts, 76-second cycle (TechNode, SCMP) |
| Aug 2026 | New humanoid at World Robot Conference, Beijing | About 1.70 m, 66 kg, 66 degrees of freedom (33 in the hands); 98% nut-fitting success after four months in the factory (36Kr) |
| 3 Nov 2026 | 8-hour shift; home trial | Factory sequencing station; 30-minute, 50-task apartment run (Xiaomi) |
Lei Jun has described the robot as an “intern” and said Xiaomi expects large numbers of humanoids in its own factories within five years. In August Xiaomi said the robot business was still in prototype iteration with no outside revenue, so its first job is cutting Xiaomi's own factory costs.
Could a Xiaomi home robot reach Australia?
Not soon, and nothing official points to it. Xiaomi has said it wants to bring robots into homes in the future, and Lei Jun has talked about a market worth a trillion yuan, but there's no product, date or price. A few things are worth knowing:
- Xiaomi already sells robots here. Its official Australian store and retailers including Bunnings, Kmart and Woolworths sell Xiaomi robot vacuums such as the X20+, in Australian versions.
- Its robot dogs didn't come officially. Xiaomi's CyberDog (2021) and CyberDog 2 (2023, 12,999 yuan in China) were China launches. We found no sign either was sold through Xiaomi Australia, only grey imports.
- Chinese home robots tend to launch in China first. AgiBot's small PrimeBOT humanoids went on sale in China in October 2026, with no Australian release. See AgiBot in Australia.
If a Xiaomi home robot ever goes on sale, check what it records and where its data goes, just as you would for a robot vacuum with a camera. Our humanoid safety guide covers the questions to ask.
