Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20+ review (Australia)

A self-emptying, mop-washing robot vacuum for under $500. Testers rate its vacuuming on hard floors and low rugs; the trade-offs are modest suction, cool-air mop drying and basic obstacle avoidance. Prices checked 1 October 2026.

Quick answer

At $489 (Amazon AU and Xiaomi Australia, against a $1,199 RRP) the X20+ is one of the cheapest robots in Australia whose dock empties the bin and washes and dries the mop pads. It's our best robot vacuum under $500. Buy it for tiles, timber and low-pile rugs. Skip it if you have thick carpet, long-haired pets, or want a robot that reliably dodges cables and pet mess.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

  • Buy if you want a hands-off dock on a budget and your floors are mostly hard with a few low rugs.
  • Buy if you'd rather not have a camera robot: it navigates by laser and structured light only.
  • Skip if you have thick or wall-to-wall carpet: 6,000 Pa is modest and the mop lifts only 7 mm.
  • Skip if you have long-haired pets; see our best robot vacuum for pet hair instead.
  • Skip if you need it to fit under low furniture: the robot is 97 mm tall.

Cleaning performance: what independent testers found

We haven't tested the X20+, and we couldn't find a review from a major Australian outlet. Here's what published reviews observed.

  • Good pickup on hard floors. TechRadar (September 2024) found it collected crumbs and flour well, and handled rugs well, though flour on a rug needed a second pass.
  • Mopping is light-duty. TechRadar saw honey and soy sauce lifted in two passes with some residue; Stuff (South Africa) found sticky messes needed repeat passes.
  • Obstacle avoidance is basic. TechRadar rated it adequate but advised care around pet mess. Stuff noted it avoided shoes and worked in the dark.
  • Thin rugs can confuse it. TechRadar saw it treat thin rugs as hard floor. Set no-mop zones for rugs in the app.
  • Noise. TechRadar measured 66 dB from about three metres.

On OzBargain, a few Australian owners report map loss and false "side brush stuck" errors. That's anecdotal, but worth knowing.

App, maintenance and running costs

It runs on the Xiaomi Home app, with room-by-room maps, no-go zones and scheduling. Xiaomi Australia lists replacement mop pads, side and main brushes, a brush cover and 2.5 L dust bags for the X20+, but showed no prices when we checked, and we couldn't verify AUD prices elsewhere. Third-party kits are sold on Amazon AU; genuine bags are the safer choice for the dock seal. Expect to cut hair off the brush by hand now and then.

Warranty and support

Xiaomi Technology Australia gives robot vacuums a two-year warranty (contact centre 1800 270 852), and Mobileciti lists 24 months for the AU version. Check you're buying the Australian model, not a grey import, so the local warranty applies. Your Australian Consumer Law rights apply on top.

Privacy and security

There's no camera. Xiaomi's general robot-vacuum privacy white paper says map data is encrypted in transit and at rest. It doesn't say where servers are located for Australian users.

  • Roborock Qrevo L: similar dock with hot-water mop washing when it's on sale. See the Roborock Qrevo range compared.
  • Xiaomi H50 Pro ($619 at Mobileciti, RRP $1,599): Xiaomi's newer model, with 15,000 Pa and hot-air drying.
  • eufy L60 SES ($479 at JB Hi-Fi on 30 September): vacuum only, but better for hair. See our robot vacuums under $500.

Our verdict

At $489 the X20+ is the budget robot to beat for mostly hard-floored homes: it does the jobs most people bought a robot for (vacuuming daily, mopping lightly, emptying itself) with a two-year local warranty. Just know what you're not getting at this price: strong carpet cleaning, heated drying and camera-based avoidance. Don't pay anywhere near the $1,199 RRP.
