iRobot Roomba Combo review (Australia): Max 705 and Plus 575

iRobot is still selling and supporting Roombas in Australia after its January 2026 sale to Picea Robotics, and its 2025 flagship is now 65% off. Here's whether a Roomba Combo still makes sense, which model to look at, and what's changed for warranty and support. Prices checked 1 October 2026.

Researched, not testedThis guide is based on manufacturer information, Australian retailer listings and independent sources, all linked below. We haven't used these robots ourselves yet.

Quick answer

The Roomba Max 705 Combo at $849 (Amazon AU and iRobot's Australian store, down from $2,399) is a roller-mop robot with a heated self-washing dock at a mid-range price. Reviews are split, though, and as a 2025 model it carries only a one-year warranty. The newer Roomba Plus 575 Combo ($999) has a two-year warranty and a 75 °C mop wash, but we couldn't find an independent review yet. For most people, the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni is the safer buy at a similar price.

iRobot in Australia in 2026

iRobot completed its court-supervised sale to Chinese manufacturer Picea Robotics on 23 January 2026, after a Chapter 11 restructuring in December 2025. iRobot's CEO told TechRadar the app would keep working, warranties would be honoured and firmware updates would continue. In Australia, Melbourne-based IXL Home distributes iRobot, runs the local online store (irobot.com.au now redirects to shopirobot.com.au) and handles warranty and support on 1300 727 421.

New-generation Roombas, including the Plus 575, 515 and 415 Combos, are now listed in Australia. ChannelNews (September 2026) reports the distributor does little marketing, and Roborock, Ecovacs and Dreame lead the Australian market.

Who should buy one, and who should skip it

  • Buy the Max 705 Combo if you want a roller mop with a heated washing and drying dock at a sale price, and you're comfortable with a one-year warranty.
  • Buy the Plus 575 Combo if you want iRobot with a two-year warranty and don't mind being an early adopter.
  • Skip if long-term app and cloud support is a dealbreaker: there's a public commitment, but no long-term guarantee.
  • Skip if you have long-haired pets: one reviewer found hair wrapped the rollers.

Cleaning performance: what independent testers found

We haven't tested either Roomba. Published reviews of the Max 705 Combo disagree sharply; we found none of the Plus 575 Combo.

  • Praise for mopping and set-up. The AU Review (December 2025, 5/5) and TechDrivePlay (October 2025, 5/5) liked the mapping, mopping and ease of use. Homes & Gardens (January 2026) called the mopping excellent.
  • A damning Australian review. Reviews.org Australia (February 2026) didn't recommend it: it reported about 80% pickup, tangling despite the rubber rollers, a slow app, unexplained errors and docking that needed the sensor cleaned daily.
  • Pet hair and carpet. Homes & Gardens found hair wrapped the rollers and carpet cleaning was weak, and measured 71 dB.
  • Teething problems. TechDrivePlay needed 30–60 minutes of firmware updates before first use and saw early dock leaks fixed by software. The AU Review noted a small onboard bin and occasional dock issues.

Maintenance and running costs

Max 705 Combo parts from iRobot's Australian store on 1 October 2026:

PartPrice (AUD)
Replenishment kit$115
PowerSpin roller mop$60
Dock bags, 3-pack$33
Filters, 3-pack$25
Edge brushes, 6-pack$35
Rubber brushes$80
Battery$149
StayClean concentrate$29

The dock is designed around iRobot's own cleaning concentrate, and TechDrivePlay notes only the official solution should be used.

Warranty and support

Under IXL Home's warranty policy, 2026 Roomba models get two years and 2025 models, including the Max 705 Combo, get one year, batteries included. Refurbished units get six months. Support is on 1300 727 421, weekdays 9am–5pm AEST, and iRobot's Australian store offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. Your Australian Consumer Law rights apply on top, including after the warranty ends if a fault appears that a robot at this price shouldn't have.

Privacy and security

Both robots use PrecisionVision, a camera-based obstacle system. As part of the Picea deal, iRobot set up a separate US subsidiary, iRobot Safe, for customer data. We couldn't find a statement specific to Australian customers' data.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • Max 705: roller mop and heated self-washing dock for $849
  • Camera-based avoidance of cords, socks and pet waste
  • Local distributor with phone support
  • Plus 575: two-year warranty and 75 °C wash

Weaknesses

  • Max 705: one-year warranty
  • Very mixed reviews, including app and docking problems
  • 105 mm-tall Max 705
  • Long-term app support is a promise, not a guarantee
  • No independent Plus 575 reviews yet

Alternatives

Our verdict

A Roomba is no longer the default choice in Australia. The Max 705 Combo at $849 is good value on paper, but a one-year warranty and split reviews make it a gamble next to rivals with longer warranties and more consistent results. If you're set on iRobot, the Plus 575 Combo's two-year warranty makes it the safer Roomba, though wait for independent reviews if you can.
