DJI Romo in Australia: Romo 2 vs the discounted first-gen Romo (October 2026)

DJI, the drone maker, launched its first robot vacuums in Australia in March 2026 and the second-generation Romo 2 in September. Now the first-gen models are being cleared at big discounts while the Romo 2 sells at full price. This page sets out what each costs, what changed, what Australian and overseas reviewers found, and what the February 2026 security flaw means for buyers. Prices checked 18 October 2026.

Quick answer

If you want a DJI, the first-gen Romo P at $1,299 (was $2,299) and Romo S at $699 (was $1,599) at D1 Store, DJI's authorised retail store, are the value buys, as long as you don't need to climb thresholds over about 2 cm. The Romo 2 (sold as the Romo P2) is $2,899 at DJI's Australian store and Amazon AU; its launch offer of $2,399 ended on 30 September. It adds 36,000 Pa suction, a wider-reaching LiDAR-guided arm and legs that step over thresholds up to 4 cm (8.5 cm double steps). All Romos have cameras: a February 2026 flaw let a researcher see into about 7,000 of them before DJI patched it, so set up two-factor login and check the privacy settings.

Prices checked 18 October 2026 on the pages linked in Sources. D1 Store calls itself Australia's only DJI authorised retail store; its collection page copy still quoted the full prices while the product cards showed the sale prices, so check the price in the cart. First-gen launch prices and dates are from EFTM (26 February 2026); Romo 2 launch pricing is from SMBtech (4 September 2026) and The AU Review (7 September 2026). DJI also sells a cheaper Romo A2 overseas without the climbing legs (techAU), but we didn't see it on DJI's Australian store.

What the Romo 2 changes

The first-gen Romo S, A and P share the same cleaning hardware: 25,000 Pa suction, two fisheye cameras plus solid-state LiDAR (no LiDAR turret on top), extendable brush and mop arms, up to about 3 hours of runtime and 55 W charging to full in about 2.5 hours (EFTM). The trims differ in looks and dock extras: the P has a see-through robot and dock with a UV light and floor deodoriser, the A a see-through robot and white dock, and the S is all white (D1 Store).

The Romo 2 keeps the camera-and-LiDAR approach and changes four things that matter (DJI Store AU):

  • More suction: 36,000 Pa, with a plate that lowers on carpet to seal against the floor.
  • A wider-reaching arm: a LiDAR-guided arm with a 123° swing reaches 7.8 cm further than the first generation and mops 4.5 cm deeper under floating furniture.
  • Climbing legs: it steps over single thresholds up to 4 cm and double steps up to 8.5 cm. Notebookcheck's first-gen Romo P couldn't climb a 2 cm step.
  • A lower-maintenance dock: DJI claims up to 365 days without cleaning the dock's washboard (it says 200 days for the first-gen P), using four water jets and a 16 mm waste port.

DJI quotes about 54 dBA in vacuum-and-mop mode and about 3 hours (roughly 178 m²) per charge in quiet vacuum mode. It is not water resistant, so keep the dock in a dry spot. If you're comparing arm designs across brands, our robot vacuums with arms guide covers Roborock and Dreame's versions.

What reviewers found

Romo 2: techAU's Australian review (26 September 2026) found obstacle avoidance strong, mapping quick and the arm and legs good at edges and thresholds, with the dock handling most weekly upkeep. Its complaints: thick, fluffy bath mats sometimes got pulled into the rollers, loose charging cables weren't reliably avoided, the clear casing shows dust and water spots, the dock is large, and the offline data mode wasn't available yet.

First-gen Romo P: EFTM (26 February 2026) praised its navigation, obstacle avoidance and cleaning on carpet and hard floors, and its quiet dock, but noted the high price, that Android owners had to install the app from DJI's website rather than Google Play at the time, and that a deep clean of a 125 m² home used much of the battery. Germany's Notebookcheck (10 November 2025) gave full marks for obstacle detection and found hard-floor edges spotless, but its unit failed on a 2 cm step, left carpet slightly damp when mopping and vacuuming together because the mops can't fully lift, and uses DJI's own cleaning solution cartridges. CHOICE has tested the Romo P; its score is for members only.

Privacy: the February 2026 security flaw

In February 2026 a researcher reported that, using only his own Romo's login token, he could reach about 7,000 Romo vacuums in 24 countries, including live camera feeds, microphone access and floor plans. DJI's message server lacked per-device access controls. DJI says it found the issue in late January and pushed automatic fixes on 8 and 10 February, with no action needed from owners; at that time at least one further flaw was still being fixed (DroneXL, 17 February 2026, citing The Verge).

DJI says a Local Data Mode, which cuts the DJI Home app off from the internet, is coming to the Romo 2 and the original Romo, and that the camera and microphone can be turned off at any time (EFTM, 3 September 2026). techAU noted it hadn't arrived by late September. The Romo 2 also supports remote video and voice calls through the app (DJI Store AU), so think about where the dock sits. Our robot vacuum privacy guide has the general checklist, including Australia's smart-device security rules that took effect in March 2026.

Which Romo should you buy?

  • Most homes with flat floors: the Romo P at $1,299 gets you DJI's flagship first-gen dock and robot at $1,000 off. It can't climb, so check door sills and rug edges first.
  • Tight budget: the Romo S at $699 has the same 25,000 Pa cleaning hardware as the P without the clear design and dock extras. That's D1 Store's price; Amazon AU's $1,299.99 is far less compelling.
  • Thresholds, sliding-door tracks or a lot of carpet: the Romo 2 at $2,899 is the one with legs and more suction. That's a premium price; DJI cut it to $2,399 at launch, so we'd watch for Black Friday (27 November) before paying full price.
  • Long hair or thick bath mats: read our pet hair picks too; techAU's mat issue is worth knowing.

Warranty: JB Hi-Fi and CHOICE list a 2-year manufacturer's warranty for the Romo P, and DJI sells an Extended Protection Plan that adds a year for the Romo 2 (SMBtech). Spare dust bags and roller brushes are on DJI's Australian store ($40 and $50), and cheaper third-party kits are on Amazon AU. Common questions

How much is the DJI Romo 2 in Australia?

$2,899 for the Romo P2 (water tank version) at DJI's Australian store and on Amazon AU, checked 18 October 2026. Its launch price of $2,399 ran from 9 to 30 September.

Is the first-gen DJI Romo still worth buying?

At clearance prices, yes for flat floors. D1 Store had the Romo P at $1,299 (was $2,299) and the Romo S at $699 (was $1,599) on 18 October 2026. It can't climb thresholds the way the Romo 2 can.

What's the difference between the Romo S, A and P?

Cleaning hardware is shared: 25,000 Pa suction, cameras plus LiDAR and extendable arms. The P has a see-through robot and dock with a UV light and floor deodoriser, the A a see-through robot with a white dock, and the S is all white.

Is the DJI Romo safe to use with its cameras?

DJI patched a flaw in February 2026 that exposed about 7,000 Romo camera feeds. Use two-factor login, turn off the camera and microphone when you don't need them, and watch for DJI's promised Local Data Mode.

Where can I buy a DJI Romo in Australia?

DJI's online store, D1 Store, JB Hi-Fi and Amazon AU listed Romo models on 18 October 2026.
