Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni review (Australia)
A 2025 roller-mop flagship that's now half price at JB Hi-Fi. Independent testers rate its vacuuming and everyday mopping highly; the catches are stubborn stains, dock noise and mixed Amazon owner ratings. Prices checked 30 September 2026.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it
- Buy if your home is mostly tiles, timber or vinyl with a few low rugs, and you want the robot to mop properly, not just damp-wipe.
- Buy if you want a long warranty: Ecovacs AU lists 2.5 years for this model.
- Skip if you have thick rugs: the roller lifts only 10 mm.
- Skip if dried-on kitchen spills are the main job, or if you're uneasy about a camera robot (see privacy below).

Cleaning performance: what independent testers found
We haven't tested the X8 Pro Omni. Here's what published reviews measured or observed.
- Vacuuming is strong. Vacuum Wars recorded 97% pet hair pickup, 79% on its carpet deep-clean test and 0% hair tangling, and ranks it third on its top-20 list. Its navigation efficiency was the second-highest the site has recorded.
- The roller mop handles everyday spills well. TechRadar's Australian reviewer called it "arguably the best mopping I've seen in a while", and Tom's Guide says it cleaned ice cream, hot sauce and peanut butter.
- Stubborn stains are its weak spot. Gadget Guy's Vegemite test left streaks on default settings and needed more water and two passes; Vacuum Wars scored its dried-on stain mopping well below average. Gadget Guy also saw wheel tracks on mopped floors.
- Obstacle avoidance is good, not perfect. TechRadar rated it fantastic apart from one low cable; Vacuum Wars scored it 15 of 20 and noted trouble with small objects; Gadget Guy's unit caught a shoelace.
- Runtime. TechRadar saw about 78 minutes at maximum settings on mixed floors, well short of the claimed figure, so bigger homes may need a recharge mid-clean.
App, maintenance and running costs
It runs on the Ecovacs Home app, with maps, no-go zones, room-by-room settings and YIKO voice control. Consumables from the Ecovacs AU store on 30 September 2026 (sale prices, with regular prices in brackets):

TechRadar flags bags and detergent as an ongoing cost. The dock's tray is designed to need cleaning only every 150 days, according to Ecovacs.
Warranty and support
Ecovacs' Australian warranty page lists the Deebot X8 Pro Omni at 2.5 years, excluding consumables such as the battery, brushes, filters and mops; JB Hi-Fi lists 30 months. CHOICE's listing says one year, but we've gone with Ecovacs' own page. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply on top.
Privacy and security
The X8 Pro Omni has a front camera and a "Video Manager" remote-viewing feature. In 2024, security researchers showed Bluetooth attacks on older Ecovacs models (the X2 and earlier, per Ecovacs) that could expose the camera and microphone; Ecovacs said it patched the issues. No reporting we could locate names the X8 Pro Omni as affected. ABC News also reported that Ecovacs' privacy policy allows media deleted in the app to be kept in some cases. If that bothers you, leave Video Manager and the product-improvement program switched off.

At $999, the X8 Pro Omni gives you a flagship-style roller mop and dock for mid-range money, and it's the robot we name best overall for most Australian homes. Just go in expecting a daily maintenance cleaner: it keeps floors tidy, but stubborn stains still need a mop and a bit of elbow grease. At anything near its $1,999 ticket price, look at the alternatives above first.
