Maytronics Dolphin review: which Dolphin pool robot to buy in Australia

Dolphin is the pool robot brand most Australian pool shops sell, with a dealer network, local repairs and a range from about $1,000 to $4,000. We compared the current Australian line-up, prices from dealers and Amazon AU, warranties, and what Australian owners report after a few years. Checked 29 October 2026.

Quick answer

Buy a Dolphin for local support and corded reliability, not for value. For most in-ground pools up to 10 m, the corded S 1000 (about $1,699) or the app-controlled S 2000 (about $2,199) does the job. For big pools, the S 3000 ($2,699 on Amazon AU, three-year warranty) or M 600 (about $3,599 to $3,699, 18 m swivel cable, Wi-Fi app). If you want cordless, the Liberty 400 ($2,699, 2.5 hours, three-year warranty) suits pools to 10 m. Australian owners rate Dolphins well for cleaning (4.0 stars for the S Line from 196 ProductReview reviews), but many report failures just after warranty and costly repairs. Cordless rivals such as the Beatbot AquaSense 2 cost less for similar pools.

Specs and warranties from Maytronics Australia's range pages and dealer listings, checked 29 October 2026; M 600 details from Dowdens' Australian listing. Dealer prices differ by up to $400 for the same model, so get two quotes. Maytronics also sells a cheaper Niya range and the solar Skimmi surface skimmer, which we haven't covered here. Australian model names don't always match overseas ranges, so check that any review you read covers the same robot.

Which Dolphin for which pool

  • Above-ground pool up to 8 m: S 50, floor only, $1,049. See our above-ground pool picks.
  • Typical in-ground pool up to 10 m: S 1000 if you're happy with a basic power supply and timer; S 2000 if you want app control and modes.
  • Large pool up to 15 m, no battery: S 3000 for steps and value; M 600 for the long swivel cable and Wi-Fi; M 700 for the four-year warranty. See pool robots for large pools.
  • Cordless: Liberty 400 to 10 m, Liberty 600 or EON 120d to 15 m. The EON 120d cleans sun ledges down to 20 cm, shallower than the corded S Line's 30 cm.

Corded or cordless Dolphin?

Corded Dolphins run fixed cycles (up to 2.5 or 3 hours) as often as you like, never need charging, and have no battery to wear out; the trade-off is a cable in the pool and a power supply beside it. The swivel on the M Line and larger S Line models stops the cable twisting, though Australian owners say swivels can fail. Cordless Liberty and EON models remove the cable but cost more for the same pool size, and their batteries will eventually need replacing. Our cordless vs corded guide has the general trade-offs.

What Australian owners report

Dolphins are among the most-reviewed pool robots on ProductReview.com.au. The S Line averages 4.0 stars from 196 reviews and the M 600 4.0 from 45, with owners praising cleaning of floors, walls and the waterline, quiet running and easy filters. Across all Maytronics listings, the brand averages 3.5 from 120 reviews (checked 29 October 2026).

The recurring complaints are about longevity and service: motors, power supplies and drive units failing just after the warranty ends (often two to four years), out-of-warranty repair quotes of roughly $500 to $2,000, swivels failing so the cable tangles, patchy app connections, and slow responses from service centres or dealers. Some owners also say Dolphins struggle with steps and bowl-shaped floors. These are self-reported reviews, not tests, but the pattern is consistent: buy the longest warranty you can, register it, and keep your receipt.

Warranty, service and the For Life program

Maytronics Australia gives two years on the S 50, S 1000, S 2000, EON 100 and Liberty 200, three years on the S 3000, EON 120d, Liberty 400 and 600 and M 600, and four on the M 700. Maytronics says it has service technicians around the country, and repairs go through its dealer network.

Buy a Liberty 400, Liberty 600, M 700 or S 400 from a Maytronics Elite Dealer and register it, and you get the Maytronics For Life program: a 30-day exchange for a similar-value Dolphin (no cash refund), a guaranteed trade-in value towards a new premium Dolphin ($400 in years 1 to 5, $300 in year 6, $250 after), a free annual robot health check between April and September (parts extra), and ongoing support from the dealer. Your Australian Consumer Law rights apply on top.

Maintenance and running costs

Rinse the filters after every cycle and deep-clean them about monthly; Maytronics says not to let filter panels dry out dirty. Keep the robot out of the pool when you shock it, store it out of the sun between 5 and 45 °C, and stretch out a kinked cable in the sun to straighten it. The Australian manual lists water temperatures of 6 to 35 °C and salt up to 5,000 ppm. Brushes, tracks and power supplies are replaceable through dealers; ask for prices before you buy, because owners say parts aren't cheap. More in our pool robot summer start-up guide.

Our verdict

Dolphin's case in Australia is local support: you can buy one from a pool shop, have it serviced nearby, and on premium models trade it in later. Corded S and M models suit owners who never want to charge a battery. But you pay more than for newer cordless brands, and Australian owners' reports of post-warranty failures are hard to ignore. If you buy one, choose a model with a three- or four-year warranty, buy from an Elite Dealer so For Life applies, and get two quotes. If price matters more than a pool-shop relationship, compare the cordless picks in our best robotic pool cleaners guide first.

Common questions

Which Maytronics Dolphin is best in Australia?

For most in-ground pools up to 10 m, the corded S 1000 (about $1,699) or S 2000 (about $2,199). For big pools, the S 3000 ($2,699 on Amazon AU) or M 600 (about $3,599 to $3,699). For cordless, the Liberty 400 ($2,699), all checked October 2026.

How long is the Dolphin warranty in Australia?

Two years on the S 50, S 1000, S 2000 and EON 100; three years on the S 3000, EON 120d, Liberty 400 and 600 and M 600; four years on the M 700, per Maytronics Australia and its dealers.

Where do you buy a Dolphin in Australia?

From Maytronics dealers (pool shops), Maytronics Australia's online shop, and Amazon AU, where Maytronics sells some models itself. Dealer prices vary, so compare.

How long do Dolphin robots last?

Maytronics doesn't publish a lifespan. Australian owners on ProductReview.com.au often report failures after two to four years, around the end of warranty, so a longer warranty is worth paying for.

What is Maytronics For Life?

A program for the Liberty 400, Liberty 600, M 700 and S 400 bought from an Elite Dealer and registered: 30-day exchange, guaranteed trade-in value, a free annual health check and ongoing dealer support.
