Aiper Scuba S1 review: a well-priced wall climber, but check the version and the battery

The Aiper Scuba S1 is one of the most widely sold cordless pool robots in Australia, and it has quietly changed under the same name: the 2024 model had no app, while the current "2026 Upgrade" adds an app, fine filtration and a longer Eco mode. We haven't used it ourselves; this review draws on Aiper's specs, Australian prices and parts lists, independent reviews and Australian owner ratings. Checked 27 October 2026.

Quick answer

Good value at $799.99 for pools up to 150 m², with a reliability question mark. The current S1 cleans the floor, walls and waterline on caterpillar treads, adds a 3 µm fine filter and an app, and Aiper claims up to 180 minutes of normal cleaning (more in Eco mode). It was $799.99 at Aiper's AU store on 27 October 2026 (RRP $999.99) and on Amazon AU the day before. The concern is longevity: on ProductReview.com.au it averages 2.9 out of 5 from 33 reviews, with repeated reports of charging or battery faults at six to 12 months. Make sure you're buying the 2026 version, keep the charging port dry, and register the two-year warranty. For a bigger pool, the Beatbot Sora 10 ($999) is rated for twice the area.

Older stock of the 2024 S1, which has no app, may still turn up cheaply. The bigger Scuba S1 Pro is a different robot: JB Hi-Fi listed it at $997 (was $1,197) but unavailable for delivery on 27 October 2026.

Version differences from Pool Planet's comparison (30 April 2026) and Aiper's AU listing. If a listing doesn't mention the app, assume it's the 2024 model. Aiper's sources disagree on Eco runtime: its AU listing and Amazon AU say up to 270 minutes, while other Aiper figures say 240. Eco mode runs shorter cycles every 48 hours rather than one long clean.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

  • Buy it if your pool is up to about 150 m² (or 15 m long) and you want walls and the waterline cleaned for under $800.
  • Buy it if you like to run light maintenance cleans every couple of days; Eco mode is designed for that.
  • Skip it if you need stairs or benches cleaned; Aiper's AU page says it isn't designed for them.
  • Skip it if you have an infinity pool (Aiper says it's not suitable) or a pool bigger than 150 m².
  • Skip it if owner-reported battery faults would put you off; see Known issues.

Cleaning: what reviewers found

The independent hands-on reviews we found cover the 2024 model, so treat them as a guide to the hardware rather than the current software. EFTM (Australia, 2 December 2024) was positive: drop it in and it gets on with it, with about 2.5 hours for the floor and 1.5 hours for walls in its testing. Reviewed.com (US, June 2024) measured about 150 minutes of runtime and a 3 to 4 hour charge, but needed four cycles to clear leaves, and found mode switching awkward without an app (the 2025 and 2026 versions add one).

CHOICE has tested the S1 in its Australian pool cleaner testing. Its results are for members, so we can't quote them; if you subscribe, they're worth reading before you buy. We found no independent review of the 2026 version yet.

Known issues: battery and charging

Australian owners are more mixed than the reviewers. On ProductReview.com.au the S1 averages 2.9 out of 5 from 33 reviews (27 October 2026), with recurring reports of charging, battery or electronics failures at six to 12 months, weak pickup of fine dust in corners and on stairs, and mixed warranty experiences: some quick repairs, some claims refused just outside warranty. OzBargain owners mention corrosion or deposits in the charging port. Aiper publishes its own troubleshooting guide for an S1 that won't charge, which suggests it's a known issue. Rinse and air-dry the robot, especially the charging port, before plugging it in.

Verdict

At $799.99 the 2026 Scuba S1 is a fair price for a tread-driven robot that does the floor, walls and waterline of a typical suburban pool, with a fine filter and an app the original lacked. What holds it back is the owner feedback on batteries and charging, and the fact that no independent reviewer has tested the current version yet. If you buy one, buy the 2026 version from Aiper or an authorised retailer, look after the charging port, and keep your paperwork. If your pool is bigger than 150 m², the Beatbot Sora 10 covers twice the area for $200 more.
